Question

Answer

How do the beacons work?

The beacon advertises its nearby location via Bluetooth signal. Titan’s proprietary WBD Gateway acts as a Bluetooth interface between the beacon and the TT6000, capturing the beacon signals and sending them to the TT6000. The TT6000 then reports the beacons with the last known day/time/location to the Titan platform for users to see where and when the beacons were last identified.

How do I turn on the beacon?

Beacons are turned ON from the factory by default.

What is the battery life of a beacon?

One beacon should have a life span of ~3+ years.

What is the warranty on a beacon?

The warranty will extend the life of the contract.

If the battery dies on the beacon before the 3-year mark, what do I do (given it was not physical damage/mishandling)?

If beacon batteries fail before 3 years from shipment, we will replace them at no charge.

What happens when the Bluetooth beacon dies (battery replacement or purchase new beacon?)?

Purchase new beacon

How to change the battery / is the battery changeable?

It is not possible to change the battery with the current device models.

Can I disable not-used sensors to conserve the battery?

No, not at this time.

What is the battery chemistry used in beacons and what is the self-discharge rate of these batteries?

CR2450 Lithium, Manganese Dioxide(MnO2), Self-discharge 1% per 1 year

What is the direction of the Beacon's antenna?

BTS Beacon antenna is identical and its signal strength is very similar in all directions.

What is the BLE transmission range of BTS devices?

Up to 80m, with diminishing signal strength as you get farther away from the beacon

What is the WBD Gateway?

The WBD Gateway is a proprietary multi-purpose interface bridge specifically designed to be connected to the TT6000.

Is the beacon IP-rated?

Yes, IP67

What is the maximum number of beacons per WBD supported?

Presently, a WBD can be programmed to identify and report 1000 unique beacons

Can a TT6000+WBD install accommodate both gravel and beacons?

No, currently the WBD can only support one feature at a time .

What is the frequency with which the beacon advertises its location?

The beacon will send a new signal every 3 seconds.

How often will the TT6000/WBD look for and report nearby beacons?

Every 60s the TT6000/WBD will review and record all beacons within range. If a beacon has exited or entered the area within the 60s then the device will report that beacon as having exited or entered.

If the beacon remains within range of my vehicle (TT6000/WBD), how often can I expect to see its location reported?

The beacon will update its location every 30 minutes of trip activity when remaining within range of a tracking device.

Why do I see my beacons report multiple exit/enter reports while in the same location?

Beacons can report degraded signal strength when near the ~80m supported range, or otherwise when there are many other physical or signal barriers; physical barriers can be multiple walls, doors, etc., and signal barriers can be many other active Bluetooth devices. This signal degradation can cause the TT6000/WBD to lose and regain the beacon signal at random.
