AIR II: Diagnostic Port – Install Guide

This article contains a step-by-step installation guide for installing the AIR II via Diagnostic Port.

Before You Begin

The installation kit contains an AIR II camera, mount plate with adhesive, wedge mount with adhesive, L-shaped Torx flat screwdriver, cleaning wipes, a pre-installed SD card, and diagnostic power cable (HD or LD).

Note: The SD Card will be pre-installed in the camera for T-Mobile shipments.

Additional tools you may need include a smartphone, pen, dash panel removers, insulated crimpers, wire cutters, wire strippers, electrical tape, cordless drill, Philips bit, utility knife, and multimeter.

Installation Steps

1. Device Mounting

Choose a suitable mounting location on the windshield. The recommended location is near the rearview mirror (to the left, right, or beneath) where the camera has a clear view of the road while minimizing driver obstruction. For heavy-duty vehicle installations, position the camera so its field of view is kept clear by the windshield wiper sweep.

Note: The mounting location must comply with all state and federal regulations.

  1. Plan the cable route from the mounting location you identified to the power connection point in the vehicle (typically near the steering column).

    Ensure the cable length is sufficient and leave a few inches of slack near the mounting location on the windshield for adjustments.

  2. Select the appropriate mount:

    1. Vertical Windshields - Use the flat mount plate for vertical windshields. This is commonly used in heavy-duty vehicles and comes pre-installed on the camera.

    2. Sloped Windshields - Use the wedge mount plate for sloped windshields (30°-60°).

  3. Install the mount on the identified portion of the windshield.

    1. Clean the windshield surface using the cleaning wipes, then follow with a dry cloth.

      Note: If you’re installing the camera in cold weather, warm the windshield prior to applying the mount to ensure proper adhesion.

    2. Remove the adhesive backing from the mount plate.

    3. Attach the mount plate firmly to the windshield.

    4. Apply firm pressure to the top and bottom of the plate to ensure proper adhesion.

  4. Connect the USB Type-C cable to the camera.

    1. Remove the Security Panel from the top of the camera.

    2. Insert the Type-C plug from the harness into the camera’s USB-C port.

    3. Reattach the Security Panel but do not insert the Torx screws until the camera has passed the Power Test during the verification process.

  5. Attach the camera to the mount.
    ​

    Mount the camera onto the plate by sliding it into position until it is fully seated and secure.
    ​

    Note: Either mount can be installed with the camera attached if preferred.
    ​

  6. Route the USB-C cable from the camera through the headliner, down the A-pillar, and toward the vehicle power connection point.
    ​

    Ensure the cable is tucked securely and does not interfere with airbags or vehicle operation.

2. Device Connections

  1. With the key removed from the ignition, locate the vehicle’s diagnostic port (OBD-II or J1939) under the dashboard.

  2. Using a digital multimeter, test for constant power at the port:

    • 9-Pin Diagnostic Connector: Place the positive probe on Pin B and the negative probe on Pin A.

    • 16-Pin Diagnostic Connector: Place the positive probe on Pin 16 and the negative probe on Pin 4.
      ​

  3. Connect the diagnostic cable to the vehicle’s diagnostic port. Verify the connector orientation before inserting and do not force the connection. Once fully seated, secure it with cable ties.
    ​

    Note: If the diagnostic port is already in use by another telematics device, install an in-line Y adapter cable to connect both devices to the vehicle’s BUS system.
    ​

  4. Secure any excess wiring using cable ties. Ensure all wiring is safely routed and does not interfere with vehicle operation.
    ​

3. Verify Installation

Use the Waylens Fleet App to verify the AIR-II installation. Confirm the following:

  • Power check

  • Network check

  • Video stream check

  1. Connect to the camera’s Wi-Fi network using your smartphone.


    The network name matches the camera serial number (SN) listed on the bottom of the camera and back of the installation booklet. The network password is also located next to the SN on the camera and installation booklet.

  2. Tap Start Installation Test.
    ​

    The app will check on the camera’s power, network, and streaming capabilities. These checks can be performed separately from the ‘Maintenance Page.’
    ​

  3. Check the video streams from the Camera page.

  4. If needed, adjust the camera’s angle of view by rotating the Camera Adjuster dial on the right side of the camera until it is positioned parallel with the road.

  5. After installation, call Titan Customer Support at +1 (855) 287-4477 to verify the installation and register the camera. When calling, be sure to have the camera’s serial number, network password, and vehicle details.

Adjust Driver-Facing Camera

The driver-facing camera’s pitch and yaw can be adjusted by hand.

  1. Remove the Driver Privacy Cover and adjust the driver-facing camera by hand.

    Ensure the camera is level with the vehicle cabin.

  2. Use the steps under Verify Installation to confirm the camera’s orientation.

  3. If applicable, reinstall the Driver Privacy Cover by inserting to the top edge in the slot, pressing it into place, and then securing it using the supplied Torx screws.
