Titan ELD App: Bluetooth Connection FAQ

Answers to common questions about how the Titan ELD app connects to your vehicle's device over Bluetooth.

The Titan ELD app connects to the device in your vehicle using Bluetooth.

This article explains why the connection may drop and what you can do to get it back.

Question

Answer

Why do I have to connect Bluetooth manually the first time?

The first time you use the app with your vehicle, you need to pair your phone with the in-vehicle device. This is a one-time step. After that, your phone should reconnect on its own.

Why does the connection end after I park and turn off my vehicle?

The in-vehicle device has a backup battery that keeps it on for about 30 minutes after the vehicle is turned off. When that battery runs out, the device shuts off, and the connection ends. This is normal. The app will reconnect the next time you start your vehicle.

Why doesn't the app reconnect after I've been away from my vehicle for a while?

Two things usually happen at the same time:

• The device turns off. If the vehicle has been off for about 30 minutes, the device shuts down, so there is nothing for your phone to connect to.
• The app stops searching. To save your phone's battery, the app stops looking for the device after a while.

What to do: Start your vehicle, then open the app. This helps make sure the app is actively looking for the device.

Why does the connection drop when I walk away from my vehicle?

The connection only works when you are close to your vehicle. This is on purpose, so your phone connects to your vehicle and not to another one parked nearby. When you walk back to your vehicle, the app should reconnect on its own.

Why does the app stop trying to reconnect after a while?

To save your phone's battery, the app stops searching if it can't find the device after some time. Open the app again to restart the search.

Why does my connection drop while I'm driving?

Common reasons include:

• Your phone paused the app while you were using a different app
• The app was closed or swiped away
• Bluetooth or Location access is turned off for the app

What to do: Keep the app open while you drive, and follow the steps for your phone below.

I have an iPhone. Why does the connection drop when I use another app?

iPhones limit what apps can do when they aren't on your screen, which helps save battery. To help the app stay connected:

• Keep the Titan ELD app open on your screen while driving, when possible
• Turn on Background App Refresh for the app (Settings > General > Background App Refresh)
• Turn off Low Power Mode, since it can stop the app from reconnecting

I have an Android phone. Why does the connection drop over time?

Many Android phones have battery-saving settings that pause apps you aren't actively using. To help the app stay connected:

• Open your phone's battery settings
• Set the Titan ELD app so your phone does not limit or optimize its battery use
• Allow the app to start on its own, if your phone has that option

These settings look different depending on your phone brand.

What should I check on any phone if Bluetooth won't reconnect?

Make sure Bluetooth and Location access are turned on for the Titan ELD app. Phone software updates can sometimes turn these off, so it's worth checking after any update.
